After-School Care and Tuition

School finishes at one. You finish at six. This is the five hours in between, and we would rather your child spent them finishing homework properly than waiting at a guard house.

The short answer

RightStart runs after-school care with tuition for primary school children in Standard 1 to Standard 6 at our Bayan Lepas centre. The afternoon covers a proper meal, supervised homework, and coached practice in the subjects your child is behind in, including Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics, Science and Mandarin. Children are looked after until 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Why parents use us

Homework done properly, not just done

Most after-school centres supervise. We mark. If your child has written the wrong method for three weeks, somebody needs to notice on the day, not at the exam.

So the afternoon has two halves. Homework first, checked before it goes back into the bag. Then targeted practice on whatever is actually weak, which for most children in Standard 3 and up is one or two specific topics rather than a whole subject.

  • Homework checked and corrected the same afternoon, not signed off blind
  • Subject coaching in BM, English, Mathematics, Science and Mandarin
  • Exam preparation that focuses on the topics your child keeps losing marks on
  • A hot meal, a rest, and a desk with no phone on it
  • A short note to you each week on what was covered and what is still shaky

Questions

After-school questions

Do you take children from any primary school?

Yes, and we work with both national school and SJKC syllabuses. Tell us which school and which stream your child is in and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.

Is this tuition or day care?

Both, and that is the point. Your child is cared for from the end of the school day until you finish work, and the time in between is spent on homework and coaching rather than a television.

Which subjects do you coach?

Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics, Science and Mandarin. Where a child needs something beyond that we will say so rather than pretend.

How many children to one teacher?

Small groups, deliberately. Ask for the exact number for the stage your child is in when you visit, and ask to see the room at 4pm when coaching is running.

Can my younger child be in the taska while my older one is here?

That is a common arrangement, and siblings are quoted together. One trip, two children, two rooms.

Do you provide transport from school?

It depends on the school and the timing. Ask us about your child's school specifically and we will tell you what we can and cannot do.

Is this a transit centre or a tuition centre?

Both, in one place. It is a transit centre in the sense most Penang parents mean it, your child is cared for after school until you finish work, and a tuition centre in that the time is spent on checked homework and subject coaching rather than waiting.

What are the fees for after-school care and tuition?

Fees depend on the stage, the number of days a week and the subjects coached. We send the current fee sheet on request. See how fees are structured.

Come at 4pm and watch the coaching
